About

The person behind the forecasts and how I think about them.

My name is Noé! I came to the Eastern Sierra 6 years ago for the summer hiking, and stayed for everything else it has to offer. A big part of that is the community here.

I started self-teaching weather during the big winter, and learning to sniff out the pattern in the short, medium and long-range.

In November 2024, I started a group chat with a few of my friends where I would send my thoughts about the weather outlook in the Eastern Sierra. From there, it grew organically into a community of hundreds of Eastside locals. I started writing my discussions as a way to help myself and a few of my friends plan their lives around weather windows, but suddenly found my discussions were helping a larger community of people plan their day-to-day and adventures.

My goal with Eastside Weather is to offer practical, honest guidance about the outlook in our unique microclimate. I want the discussions and tools on the site to be useful to Eastside locals and visitors alike.

My approach to forecasting is cautious optimism, grounded in ensembles, teleconnections, and a broad view of atmospheric circulation. I focus on helping people interpret what the forecast actually means for skiing, climbing, hiking, travel, and day-to-day life in the Eastern Sierra.
