It’s always a great day here in the Eastern Sierra. I’m Noé from eastsideweather.com, here for MammothFM in the Eastern Sierra, coming atcha with your local weather report…

With some chilly temps and snow showers moving in, it’s obvious that winter is just around the corner.

My friends, if you listened to my last radio report last Friday, you’ll recall I warned about the volatility of the storm forecast. This is common with this type of storm, called a cutoff low. The precipitation has been mostly pushed back to Monday now as the timing of the trough lagged behind what models were showing, and precipitation amounts have trended down generally as well. This is because the interaction between the cutoff low and Hurricane Rachel is now able to draw in less moisture. Monday will now feature scattered showers with highly varied totals, ranging from no accumulation to several inches along isolated peaks.

Longer range, the theme of more troughing activity appears likely to continue, with another trough possible on October 20th. As of now, we are still waiting to see a larger storm come into the forecast.

And now for the weather forecast this week:

In Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding areas.

Monday will feature a 40 percent chance of showers, mostly in the afternoon. It will be mostly sunny with a high of 46 and a low of 27. Gusty winds up to 20 mph.

Tuesday starts partly sunny, clearing up throughout the day. A high near 50. Wind gusts up to 20mph will be possible. Clear overnight with a low of 29.

Wednesday. Sunny, with a high near 59. Overnight low of 34.

The rest of the week into the weekend appears to be on a warming trend with clear weather currently favored.

And now, down to our friends in the Owens Valley.

Monday. A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening. It will be mostly sunny with a high of 61, gusty winds up to 25mph, and an overnight low of 31.

Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 66, gusty northwest winds up to 25 mph. An overnight low of 34.

Wednesday. Sunny, with a high near 73. Overnight low of 39. The rest of the week is also on a warming trend with clear weather generally favored into the weekend.
