My friends…

It’s always a beautiful day here in the Eastern Sierra. I’m Noé from eastsideweather.com, here for MammothFM in the Eastern Sierra, coming atcha with your local weather report…

Clear weather continues until this weekend. Then, we’ve been tracking our next possible storm window on Halloweekend for quite a while. Unfortunately, as we’ve gotten closer, the forecast is still just as uncertain as ever. Two moving parts need to line up for us to see a storm here in the Sierra Nevada. The first is a cold upper level low swinging down from the north, which may combine with the southern jet stream to tap into some subtropical moisture.

As of now, models still show a huge spread of precipitation outcomes for us here in Mammoth, ranging from no precipitation at all up to over an inch of liquid. And if this did materialize, it would bring snow levels mostly below town level the whole time… But right now we still need to wait before we can give a forecast.

Beyond this, storm chances will decrease momentarily next week, after which point a large trough in the Gulf of Alaska is favored to set up. As of now, this is looking like it will bring considerable precipitation to the Pacific Northwest, with the storm door remaining open into California. Again, an open storm door doesn’t mean we will get one, but that there is at least a plausible pathway to getting a storm.

And now for the weather forecast this week:

In Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding areas.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 57, with strong southwest winds continuing into Wednesday, gusting up to 35mph, and an overnight low of 32.

Wednesday is currently looking clear with a high near 53 and a low of 33, with winds gusting as high as 20mph.

Thursday features increasing cloud cover as precipitation chances start increasing into the weekend, particularly Friday into Sunday.

And now down to our friends in the Owens Valley.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 72 and light and variable winds, with gusts possibly as high as 20mph. Clear overnight with a low of 38.

Wednesday will be sunny again, with a high of 66 and a low of 40 Wednesday night.

Thursday features increasing cloud cover as precipitation chances start increasing into the weekend, particularly Friday into Sunday.

Eastside Weather is a passion project, but keeping it running comes with steady monthly costs: hosting, data feeds and the servers that crunch the model runs. Right now the site costs more than it brings in. Whatever you chip in goes straight back into keeping it going and building new tools.
