My friends…
It’s always a beautiful day here in the Eastern Sierra. I’m Noé from eastsideweather.com, here for MammothFM in the Eastern Sierra, coming atcha with your local weather report…
Dry and warm weather is forecast to stick around for the next 5 or so days. Then, a change in the pattern is being monitored as another trough is coming our way. This one looks likely to become what’s called a cutoff low, and it could take a while to move through, and could also result in a volatile and difficult forecast.
The trend over the last day with this storm has been for the low to shift west of us. So, instead of taking a drier track over land, it now looks likely to strengthen over water, which will result in slightly more moisture.
As of now, this is not looking like a major winter storm, but it may be our first accumulation of multiple inches. There’s still plenty of time for the forecast to change, but the period around October 20th through the 22nd is likely to bring a period of unsettled weather.
I’ve been expecting that our real change to more prolonged wintery conditions would come about some time in November. Longer range modeling has been very consistent in showing this for quite some time, and as we get closer, that signal is sticking around. In addition to that, the Pacific is showing signs of stirring, but we just have to wait for that first big dump to come into view.
And now for the weather forecast this week:
In Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding areas.
Thursday will be sunny with a high near 63 and an overnight low of 39 with moderate and gusty winds up to 30mph.
Friday will be sunny with a high of 65 and a low of 38, with light easterly winds.
Saturday will once again be sunny with a high near 67 and an overnight low of 40, with calm winds expected.
And clear weather continues into Sunday.
And now down to our friends in the Owens Valley.
Thursday will be sunny with a high near 79 and an overnight low of 45, with light and variable winds.
Friday will be sunny with a high near 80 and an overnight low of 46, and east winds gusting to 25mph.
Saturday once again sunny with a high near 81 and a low of 46.
Sunday looks like a similar story.
