My friends…

It’s always a beautiful day here in the Eastern Sierra. I’m Noé from eastsideweather.com, here for MammothFM in the Eastern Sierra, coming atcha with your local weather report…

Our warming trend is now in full effect for about another week or so. Then, next week and especially next weekend and beyond, we are still monitoring a potentially active pattern out west. We’ve really been talking about this one for a while, and each day my confidence increases, but we need to get an event within 5 days before we can talk about any details like precipitation amounts and timing.

The upcoming pattern will feature a deep trough in the Gulf of Alaska, shifting southeast towards California. As this happens, our storm chances will gradually increase. This is a textbook El Niño pattern, and it’s showing up earlier than usual. Usually, you start to see a reliable response to El Niño in California around mid-December or even later. But, because of the magnitude of this El Niño, I’m expecting we see the impacts show up sooner than usual, and stronger than usual as well.

Mammoth Mountain opened this Thursday, and ski season is officially under way here in Mammoth. This upcoming pattern could just bring the base builder we need to expand terrain, but we need to keep up our snow dances because nothing is locked in just yet.

And now for the weather forecast this week:
